(BELLINGHAM)- Contractor crews are moving equipment and supplies into position this week on the Bellingham waterfront to contain oil seeping from the shoreline of R.G. Haley cleanup site. Oil has been seeping from the shoreline since December last year.
Crews will install a sand/clay layer over the shoreline, cover it with gravel, and surround it with a rock berm. The sand/clay will absorb oil seeping out. This is an interim project to contain the seep until the final site-wide cleanup begins in 2015.
Much of the work will be done at night in November when tides are expected to be lowest. Work is expected to finish by the end of November.
