Oso landslide relief funds on the way to help people with special transportation needs

(DARRINGTON) – Gov. Jay Inslee today announced emergency public transportation grant funds will help respond to the needs of vulnerable people affected by the landslide in Oso – people whose age, disability or income already limited their transportation options.

The Washington State Department of Transportation will add up to $200,000 to previously awarded grant funding to Senior Services of Snohomish County. The additional funding will be used for emergency efforts to provide accessible transportation services to people with special needs and now facing new barriers in the wake of the devastating landslide in Snohomish County.

The grant includes a mix of state and federal funds. The exact amount will be based on budget and needs identified in the community.

Seniors and people with disabilities with limited transportation options often experience worsened limitation after their community is shaken by natural disaster. This grant funding will help local transportation providers to ensure a basic level of access to life sustaining services.
