Governor to join ceremony

(LA CONNER)— The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission says Governor Christine Gregoire and Swinomish Tribal leaders will join them in a ceremony to dedicate the recent acquisition of Kiket Island tomorrow afternoon.

The ceremony will be held at Kiket Island, but will be limited to the media only because of space limitations and the fragile habitat of the island.

Parks officials say the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community will share the richness of their heritage through drums and songs from the Edwards family.

The park will not be open to the public until the Parks Commission and the Tribe complete a management plan that preserves the cultural and natural resources of Kiket Island while providing for limited public day use.
