Final extended detour expected at I-5 Skagit River Bridge on Thursday

(BURLINGTON)– Early morning drivers who normally use Interstate 5 over the Skagit River need to be ready for what should be the last 12-hour full detour at the Skagit River Bridge.  On Thursday, both directions of I-5 will be detoured between the George Hopper Road and College Way interchanges from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. while contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation continue to retrofit the steel overhead trusses.  Drivers should plan for early Friday morning delays, which will likely occur between roughly 5:30 and 8 a.m., lasting 20 minutes or more by  7 a.m. and until the bridge reopens to traffic.
