(BURLINGTON)– Employment at Port of Skagit properties is up 27.8 percent compared to one year ago, according to a report presented to the port’s Board of Commissioners this week. Port tenants reported a total of 1,149 employees in the Third Quarter Employment Census completed last month.
The semiannual job census, compiled by port staff, showed port tenants employed 988 people in full-time jobs during the quarter, up 59 from the same period in 2012. Part-time employment grew as well, from 99 jobs a year ago to 161 now, the census also revealed.
The employment numbers also were improved compared to the first quarter of 2013, with employers reporting 114 more full-time jobs and 31 fewer part-time jobs.
Patsy Martin, executive director of the Port of Skagit, noted the strongest employment growth took place in the port’s Bayview Business Park, with the port’s 36 tenants there adding 176 full-time jobs since last fall.
