(LACEY)- The Washington Ecology Department is changing fee amounts it collects in several categories of wastewater discharge permits. The permits are the state’s primary tools to prevent water pollution. Fees recoup the state’s costs to administer the permits. The fee amount is set by the state Legislature. Ecology proposes to increase fees only for permit types where fees do not cover the state’s cost to administer them. The changes take effect December second.
