(WASHINGTON)- In less than five years Washington’s free electronics recycling program has collected a total of 200 million pounds of TVs, computers and monitors. Washington residents are bringing in their unwanted TVs and computers for recycling at a rate of nearly 6.7 pounds per person per year. These electronic products contain toxic metals that are harmful to the environment and humans when tossed out with garbage that ends up in landfills. The manufacturers of these electronic products fully fund the program and work with the state Ecology department to run the statewide collection and recycling system.
