(BLAINE)- Crews working for the Port of Bellingham found and removed approximately 230 cubic yards of contaminated soil from a construction site in the Blaine Harbor industrial area. They found the contamination during a routine environmental investigation for the Westman Marine cleanup site. The contaminated soil is stockpiled nearby and will be properly disposed in a landfill permitted to accept these materials. The Port has proposed an interim project to transport and properly dispose the contaminated soils. The Washington Department of Ecology is making the plans available for public review January 13 through February 12. Visit Ecology’s website and search for Westman Marine to learn more.
