It all began for Jerry Walker when he was a kid on Brooklyn’s mean streets. He remembers using some rather primitive radio equipment to “broadcast” a show to his neighborhood.
“I had a Lafayette Electronics Transmitter and a WebCor record player,” he says. “I think the signal reached about three blocks.”
These days Jerry broadcasts on a signal that reaches a little farther. As the overnight host of ABC’s Country Coast-to-Coast, he reaches a national audience that numbers in the thousands.
A career in radio was Jerry’s lifelong goal, and he claims that the highlight of his career before comming to ABC was his work with WBAP, Dallas.
“WBAP’s signal covers 42 states,” he says. “It’s kind of humbling to realize that your voice is being heard by well over half the country during certain times of the day.”
In addition to radio, Jerry lists his son, Robbie, and his wife, Tina, as his main interest.
(You can hear Jerry Walker weekday’s on KAPS 660 from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.)
