(MOUNT VERNON)- South Third Street was closed at 6:30 this morning and will open back up at 5 p.m. between Broadway and Old Highway 99 in Mount Vernon. It will be closed between the same times tomorrow and Thursday.

Road blocked by rockslide

(SKAGIT COUNTY)- A rock slide is blocking the road to the Ross Dam powerhouse on Diablo Lake.

The slide happened late Sunday night. No one was injured.

An unoccupied pickup truck that belongs to Ross Lake Resort was destroyed by the slide.

The slide is not interfering with dam operations.

The slide covers the road running north between Diablo Lake and Ross Lake Dam and Ross Lake Resort.

The road is not accessible to the public.

Woman and her children held prisoner

(SEDRO-WOOLLEY)- A Sedro-Woolley woman and her two children were reportedly held prisoner for at least two days in their own home.

An Anacortes man, father of the children, allegedly sneaked into the house when the woman was gone.

The woman managed to text a message Friday, which brought deputies to the house.

The man was booked into Skagit County Jail.

Car prowls continue to be a problem

(BIG LAKE)- Two Big Lake brothers saw some men in a neighbor’s car, early Sunday morning.

The teens captured one of the men and called police.

Investigators found several other cars had been broken into nearby.

They think at least four people were involved.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to know if there’s a connection to a rash of car prowls that have plagued the county for two months.

OH City Council may have violated Act

(OAK HARBOR)- Oak Harbor City Council may have violated the Open Public Meetings Act last week.

They attended a public works standing committee and discussed plans for Pioneer Way.

The Oak Harbor City Attorney thinks the city did nothing wrong, while the Assistant State Attorney General for Government Accountability said the city should have provided proper notice of special council meeting.

A “special meeting” designation is required if the majority, or a quoram, of council members are expected to attend.

A fire station may close on Whidbey Island

(OAK HARBOR)- North Whidbey Fire Chief Marv Koorn has asked the district board of commissioners to consider closing either the Silver Lake Station 23 or the Polnell Fire Station 22 as a cost-saving measure. If the commissioners approve Koorn’s request, paid on-call and volunteer firefighters who currently respond to Silver Lake Fire Station would be re-assigned to other stations.

(DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME)- It’s time to spring forward again. Daylight savings time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, so don’t forget to set your clock ahead one hour before you go to bed Saturday night. Daylight savings time exists to add an extra hour of daylight in the evenings and the lost hour is regained on Sunday, November 7th, when clocks fall back. Also, it’s always a good idea to check or change the batteries in your smoke alarm.

School bus driver cited with ticket

(CONWAY)– Michelle Greene, of Arlington was driving the Conway school bus that ran off the road Wednesday and tipped over onto its side.

The Skagit County Sheriff’s Office says she was cited with ‘wheels-off-the-roadway’, which is a $124 dollar ticket.

The Conway School District has not decided if it will take any action against Greene.
