(SKAGIT COUNTY)— The Skagit County Auditors Office says a proposed 12.5-cent emergency services levy increase is slated to appear on the August 7th ballot as Proposition 1.

Officials say the levy hike, which would increase property owners’ contribution to countywide ambulance service to 37.5 cents per assessed $1,000, is intended to allow the county to maintain current operations while purchasing equipment upgrades and making up for falling revenue.

Consultants hired by the Emergency Medical Services Commission predicted that the system would be more than $1.2 million in debt next year if it maintains its service levels at the current 25 cent levy rate, according to a report.
