Gromus to continue sentence

(MOUNT VERNON)- Former Mount Vernon High School teacher Alan Gromus will continue to serve his 20-year sentence for assault. Washington Court of Appeals, Division 1, upheld Gromus’ conviction for attacking his wife Pam and neighbor Greg O’Conner with a baseball bat at Gromus’ Campbell Lake home in 2007.

Snow pack is still low

(NORTHWEST WASHINGTON)- There were reports of snow showers yesterday from Burlington, Mount Vernon, Clear Lake, Whidbey Island, Lake Cavanaugh and Whatcom County. In the Cascades, no more than an inch or two of snow was expected, so it won’t add significantly to the snow pack, leaving fear of water shortages later this year.

Boeing may be sole bidder

(EVERETT)- Northrup Grumman will not compete for a contract to build the Air Force’s next generation of refueling tankers.

It now appears Boeing will be the sole bidder for the contract, which will bring new life to their 767 assembly line in Everett.

Winning the contract to replace 179 of the aging KC-135 tankers will provide work for many years to thousands of employees in Everett.

State Legislature approves golf cart bill

(OLYMPIA)- The Washington State Legislature has approved golf carts on public roads in cities that allow it.

The bill now heads to Governor Chris Gregoire for her signature.

Golf carts would only be allowed on streets with speed limits of 25 mph or less.

Carts operated in golf cart zones must have reflectors, rearview mirrors, and seat belts.

Letters should be coming from the U.S. Census

Employee attacked at Burlington store

(BURLINGTON)- An employee was attacked at the Lovers store on Burlington Boulevard on Friday night.

As she was preparing to lock-up, a lingering customer dragged her into a back room.

She bit his arm and stabbed at him with scissors and escaped to a neighboring store to call police.

Within the hour, a Bow man turned himself in to the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office in Mount Vernon. He’s in jail.

Neither required immediate medical attention.

(BURLINGTON)- The Burlington City Council will discuss rezoning the old city fire station from semi-public to general commercial when they meet Thursday night.

(ANACORTES)- Anacortes Police arrested a 20-year-old man yesterday. They believe Dereck Halstead was involved in fraud.

Three rescued near La Conner

(LA CONNER)- Three beach walkers had to be rescued last night near La Conner after being stranded by rising tide.

The La Conner fire boat had to pull them from Martha’s Beach, where they were stuck for nearly two hours.

They were all cold, but required no hospitalization.
