(Neah Bay)- A rescue tug is starting year round service today in Neah Bay.
A tug has been in place at the entrance to the Strait of Juan de Fuca during winter months since 1999, assisting 40 disabled ships. The Legislature approved 3.7-million-dollars for a full year of service for the first time. The Washington State Ecology Department has a contract with Crowley Maritime Corp. for 8,500-dollars a day plus fuel costs.
The group People for Puget Sound says the tug still needs a permanent funding source.
